Hawaii Island Hopping 101: How to Choose the Right Hawaiian Island for Your Trip đş
Hawaii isnât one destinationâitâs six completely different experiences. Discover how to choose the Hawaiian island that fits your travel style, whether youâre dreaming of adventure, romance, relaxation, or your first-ever trip to paradise.
Oahu
Dreaming of Hawaii but stuck on which island to choose? Youâre not alone. Hawaii isnât a one-size-fits-all destinationâeach island has a completely different personality. The key to planning the perfect trip isnât seeing everything⌠itâs choosing the island that matches how you want to feel on vacation.
Hereâs a simple, stress-free way to narrow it down đ
Step 1: Start With Your Travel Style
Before you think beaches or luaus, ask yourself:
-Do I want relaxation or adventure?
-Is this a honeymoon, family trip, or bucket-list getaway?
-Do I want luxury resorts or local culture?
-Am I renting a car and exploringâor staying put?
đ´ Oahu â Best for First-Timers & City + Beach Lovers
Choose Oahu if you want:
-A little bit of everything
-Iconic beaches like Waikiki
-Restaurants, nightlife, shopping, and culture
-Easy logistics and lots of activities
Why it works:
Oahu blends city energy with island beauty. You can hike Diamond Head in the morning, surf the North Shore in the afternoon, and enjoy world-class dining at night. Itâs ideal if you donât want to sacrifice convenience for paradise.
Skip Oahu if: you want total seclusion or zero crowds.
đş Maui â Best for Couples & Balanced Luxury
Choose Maui if you want:
-Romantic vibes and scenic drives
-Upscale resorts with easy exploration
-Beaches, waterfalls, and volcanoes in one trip
Why it works:
Maui is the âbest-of-all-worldsâ island. The Road to Hana, HaleakalÄ sunrise, whale watching, and stunning beaches make it incredibly versatileâespecially for honeymoons or milestone trips.
Skip Maui if: you want nightlife or the lowest prices.
đ Kauai â Best for Nature Lovers & Peace Seekers
Choose Kauai if you want:
-Jaw-dropping scenery
-Fewer crowds
-Hiking, waterfalls, and raw beauty
Why it works:
Kauai feels untouched and deeply peaceful. From the NÄ Pali Coast to Waimea Canyon, itâs perfect for travelers who want to unplug and connect with nature.
Skip Kauai if: you need nightlife or lots of organized activities.
đ Big Island â Best for Adventure & Diversity
Choose the Big Island if you want:
-Volcanoes, lava fields, and black-sand beaches
-Fewer tourists and wide-open space
-A sense of discovery and adventure
Why it works:
The Big Island is massive and wildly diverseâsnow-capped mountains, tropical rainforests, and active volcanoes all on one island. Itâs unforgettable for curious, adventurous travelers.
Skip the Big Island if: you donât want long drives.
đ Lanai & Molokai â Best for True Escape
Choose these if you want:
-Extreme privacy
-Minimal crowds
-A slower, more traditional pace
Why they work:
These islands are for travelers who want to disappear. Think fewer resorts, fewer tourists, and deeper cultural experiences.
Skip if: itâs your first trip to Hawaii.
Step 2: Narrow It Down (Fast Decision Guide)
First time in Hawaii? â Oahu or Maui
Honeymoon or anniversary? â Maui or Kauai
Outdoor adventure lover? â Big Island or Kauai
Luxury + relaxation? â Maui or Lanai
Want something different? â Big Island
Final Tip: Donât Over-Island-Hop
Hawaii rewards slow travel. Moving hotels every few days eats into beach time and adds stress. For most trips under 10 days, one island is perfect.
Ready to Choose Your Island?
The âbestâ Hawaiian island doesnât existâthe best one is the one that fits you. Once you match your travel style to the islandâs personality, Hawaii stops feeling overwhelming and starts feeling magical â¨
If you want help pairing the right resort with the right island, thatâs where expert planning makes all the difference đ´

The Certified Confidant designation is earned through Hyatt's Inclusive Collection Confidant Collective program â the official training and certification platform for one of the most prestigious luxury all-inclusive portfolios in the world. Earning it requires completing ten core Confidant Learning courses, passing each with a score of 85% or higher covering the full portfolio of Hyatt's all-inclusive brands including Secrets, Dreams, Breathless, ZoĂŤtry, Hyatt Ziva, Hyatt Zilara, Hyatt Vivid, and more â spanning Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, and beyond.
For you, that means when I recommend a Hyatt Inclusive Collection property, I know the difference between brands, room categories, and experiences â and exactly which one fits your trip. Not every resort is right for every traveler, and this certification means I can guide you to the one that's actually right for you.
Certified Sandals Specialist
The Certified Sandals Specialist designation is one of the most recognized credentials in luxury all-inclusive travel. Earning it requires completing an in-depth training program covering every aspect of the Sandals and Beaches resort portfolios â room categories, destinations, inclusions, group experiences, and destination weddings.
The program spans 21 lessons across four chaptera covering everything from resort comparisons to booking strategy â and it covers both brands. Sandals is the gold standard in adults-only, luxury all-inclusive Caribbean travel. Beaches extends that same level of quality to family travel.
For you, that means when I recommend a Sandals or Beaches resort, I'm not pulling from a website â I'm drawing on specialized, brand-certified knowledge of exactly what each property offers and which one is right for your trip.
ALG Pro
The ALGVPro certification is earned through Apple Leisure Group Vacations â the nation's #1 seller of all-inclusive vacations and the leading provider of travel to Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and the Caribbean. This specialist designation means I've completed an advanced multi-module training program covering resort brands, destination expertise, and booking strategy â and earned continuing education credits through the Travel Institute in the process.
For you, that means I'm not guessing when I recommend a resort. I have deep, trained knowledge of the brands, the properties, and how to get you the best possible experience â backed by one of the most respected names in vacation travel.
Outstanding planning and direction. Called on a whim, two days later Iâm sipping a cool drink beach/poolside in another country. 1st class service brought me first class experience. The destination treated me like a king.No issues. The nice thing is, as a senior, Bre set my WhatsApp with her so I felt like , although 1900 miles away, I had a safety unmbrella over. Bre made sure I was covered for any medical emergency to have an critical path back home if needed. Bre , through general conversation my meal preference picked out for my flights! (Sliders were awesome). They already knew! That about covers a seemlessoperation. Thanks Bre, Yellowstone USA next. MFStone -M. Stone

Discover why choosing the right resort can completely change your vacation experience and how thoughtful travel planning makes all the difference.
When people start planning a caribbean vacation or all-inclusive getaway, they usually focus on the destination first.
Mexico.
Jamaica.
The Bahamas.
Hawaii.
But what many travelers donât realize is that choosing the right resort can completely change the entire vacation experience.
Two people can visit the same destination, stay the same week, and even spend roughly the same amount of money â yet come home talking about completely different trips.
One says it was the best vacation theyâve ever taken.
The other says it was âjust okay.â
So what actually makes the difference.
Surprisingly, itâs rarely the destination itself.
The Destination Isnât the Whole Story
When people start planning a trip, they naturally focus on where they want to go.
They picture turquoise water, white sand beaches, or iconic landmarks.
But destinations like Cancun, Jamaica, or the Bahamas often have dozens â sometimes hundreds â of resorts, each offering a completely different atmosphere.
Two travelers might both say they went to Cancun.
But one stayed at a high-energy resort filled with activities and entertainment.
The other stayed at a quiet adults-only property designed for relaxation and slower days.
Technically, they went to the same place.
But the experiences were completely different.
How the Resort Shapes the Entire Experience
One of the biggest factors that changes a trip is the resort itself.
Some resorts are designed around:
-high energy
-busy pools
-lots of entertainment
-social atmospheres
Others are designed for:
-quiet mornings
-better dining
-slower pacing
-more private spaces
Neither type of resort is âbetter.â
But if someone looking for a peaceful getaway accidentally books a high-energy property, the vacation can feel completely wrong.
This is why choosing the right resort is often more important than choosing the destination itself.
Small Details That Change Your Trip
Beyond the overall resort vibe, there are smaller details that travelers often overlook when booking a vacation.
These details may not stand out when browsing photos online, but they can shape how the trip actually feels.
Some of these include:
-the location of your room on the property
-how large or spread out the resort is
-the number and quality of restaurants
-beach accessibility and layout
-how crowded the common areas feel
For example, two guests might stay at the same resort but have very different experiences depending on whether their room overlooks a peaceful ocean view or a busy pool area.
These details are often the difference between a trip that feels relaxing and one that feels overwhelming.
Why Thoughtful Travel Planning Matters
Because there are so many variables that influence a vacation experience, thoughtful planning becomes incredibly important.
A destination alone doesnât guarantee a great trip.
What really matters is finding the right property that matches the travelerâs personality, expectations, and pace of travel.
Some travelers want:
-lively entertainment
-lots of social interaction
-full daily activity schedules
Others prefer:
-quiet mornings with coffee by the ocean
-slow afternoons by the pool
-long dinners and relaxed evenings
Neither preference is wrong.
But the key is making sure the resort aligns with the travelerâs expectations.
When that alignment happens, the vacation becomes far more memorable.
The Difference Between a Good Trip and an Unforgettable One
At the end of the day, travel isnât just about the place you visit.
Itâs about how the trip feels while youâre there.
The right resort can create space for:
-deeper relaxation
-better experiences
-meaningful memories
And often the difference between a good trip and an unforgettable one comes down to details travelers might not even realize they should consider.
When those details align, people come home saying:
âThat was the best trip weâve ever taken.â
Frequently Asked Questions About Choosing the Right Resort
How do I choose the right resort for my vacation?
Start by thinking about the experience you want, not just the destination. Consider the atmosphere of the resort, the size of the property, dining options, guest reviews, and whether the environment is lively or relaxed. These factors often shape the entire vacation experience.
Are all all-inclusive resorts the same?
No. All-inclusive resorts can vary dramatically in atmosphere, quality, and experience. Some are designed around high energy and entertainment, while others focus on relaxation, privacy, and elevated dining.
Does the room category really make a difference?
Yes. Room category can influence your view, privacy, noise level, and proximity to amenities. Two travelers staying at the same resort may have completely different experiences depending on the room they choose.
What should I consider when booking a Caribbean resort?
Travelers should look at the overall vibe of the property, resort size, dining quality, beach accessibility, guest reviews, and the layout of the resort. These details often determine how relaxing and enjoyable the vacation will feel.
Why do some people love a destination while others donât?
Often itâs not the destination itself but the specific resort or area they stayed in. Choosing a property that matches your travel style is one of the biggest factors in whether a trip feels unforgettable.
Final Thoughts
Travel isnât just about where you go.
Itâs about how the trip feels once you arrive.
Choosing the right resort helps create an experience that matches what you truly want from your vacation â whether thatâs relaxation, adventure, connection, or exploration.
And sometimes the smallest details are what turn a simple trip into a memory that lasts for years.
Santorini without the stress â and a private black-sand beach your kids will never forget.
If you've ever tried to do Santorini with children on a cruise ship, you already know the chaos. The tender queues. The cable car that moves 1,200 people an hour on days when multiple ships bring in more than 10,000. The donkey path that isn't quite as charming when you have a seven-year-old who's already melting in the July heat. Santorini is extraordinary â and it's also one of the most logistically brutal port days in the Mediterranean.
That changes in summer 2026. Royal Caribbean is opening Royal Beach Club Santorini, Europe's first-ever Royal Beach Club, and for families cruising the Greek Isles, it might just be the single best addition to a Mediterranean itinerary in years.
Everything Is Already Sorted â And That's the Whole Point
The core experience is called the Ultimate Santorini Day, and it works exactly as the name promises. From the moment you step off the ship, transportation is handled. Your family gets a scenic ferry ride along Santorini's dramatic coastline, guided stops in both Oia (the famous blue-domed village) and Fira (the island's buzzing capital), and then time at the beach club itself â a private stretch of Santorini's iconic volcanic black sand beach that is reserved exclusively for Royal Caribbean guests on the days a ship is in port.
Included in the price: loungers, umbrellas, towels, Wi-Fi, an all-you-can-eat Mediterranean buffet with fresh Greek food â gyros, souvlaki, spanakopita â a Greek frozen yogurt station, and unlimited beer, wine, coffee, and soft drinks throughout the day. There are private changing cabanas. There's a DJ. And crucially, there are no age restrictions, so the whole family is welcome.
Day pass pricing is already live in the Royal Caribbean app. For a sailing in October 2026 on Explorer of the Seas, a day pass is listed at $284 per adult and $199 per child â with promotional discounts frequently available.
Why Families Specifically Will Love This
Traveling with kids in Santorini under normal cruise conditions is a high-wire act. The island's geography â steep caldera cliffs, narrow cobbled streets, limited transport â isn't forgiving for families with strollers, younger children, or anyone who just needs a moment to sit down with a cold drink. The Royal Beach Club removes all of that friction.
You arrive knowing exactly where you're going. Your kids can run on a stunning black sand beach with the Aegean stretching out in front of them while you sit on a shaded lounger with a glass of house wine. Lunch is already there. No scrambling for a restaurant in packed Fira. No worrying about making it back to the tender on time â transportation is coordinated as part of the excursion, with timings aligned to the ship's departure.
The three-stop structure also works beautifully for families. Kids who have a short window of cultural tolerance get their Oia photo moment and a scoop of Greek frozen yogurt â then the rest of the day is beach and sea. Parents who actually want to absorb a little of Santorini's magic get proper time in Fira and Oia without the usual chaos. Everyone wins.
Royal Caribbean Designed This to Beat the Crowds
One of the smartest things about the Royal Beach Club concept is how Royal Caribbean manages guest flow. Rather than sending everyone through the same bottleneck at the same time, the Ultimate Santorini Day uses a staggered, three-point arrival system â guests come ashore to different starting locations at different times, distributing the crowd across the island. For families who've previously had their Santorini day wrecked by a two-hour cable car queue, this is a genuinely meaningful improvement.
The beach club itself sits at Vlychada on the island's southern shore â about 15 minutes from Fira â at what appears to be the site of the existing Theros Beach Club, a well-regarded local venue. It's away from the most congested clifftop areas, which means the beach experience is genuinely relaxed, not just a different flavor of chaos.
How to Book
The Ultimate Santorini Day is bookable now for any 2026 Greek Isles sailing that calls at Santorini â and 2027 dates are already opening up too. The first ship arrives April 27, 2026 on Odyssey of the Seas, and sailings from Vision Class through Quantum Class ships are included, as are Celebrity Cruises guests.
Don't wait until you're onboard. Royal Caribbean's private destination experiences consistently sell out well ahead of sail date, and Santorini in peak summer will be no different. Cabanas and premium spots go first.
Interested in summer 2026 or 2027 dates? Ready to make this happen for your family? Fill out my trip request form or reach out directly at briana.capps@vincentvacations.com â I'll handle everything from finding the right sailing to securing your beach club day before it sells out.
When most people hear 'Disney World,' they picture strollers, character breakfasts, and children melting down in the heat. And honestly? That's fair.
But here's what those people are missing: Disney World without kids is a completely different experience â and it might be one of the most underrated adult vacations out there.
I go regularly, and I go without kids just as often as with them. Here's why adults-only Disney is something you should seriously consider booking.
You Actually Get to Do DisneyYourWay
When you travel with kids, the trip is built around their schedule. Nap times, meltdowns, height restrictions, and whatever character your 4-year-old is currently obsessed with.
Go without them? You sleep in. You rope drop the rides you want. You linger over a real sit-down lunch with a cocktail. You stay for the late-night fireworks without calculating whether a toddler will make it. You skip the stroller pace, linger over cocktails, and ride what you want instead of what someone else wants.
It sounds simple, but the freedom genuinely transforms the trip.
EPCOT Was Practically Built for Adults
If you haven't been to EPCOT as an adult, you have been sleeping on it. The World Showcase is essentially a curated international food and drink crawl wrapped in incredible theming. La Cava del Tequila, Tutto Gusto, Baseline Tap House, and Oga's Cantina are just a few of the spots worth your time â and none of them are really about the kids.
Disney has also introduced an elevated EPCOT lounge experience exclusively for guests 21 and up â cocktails, culinary creations, scenic views. That's not a kids' activity. That's a date night.
And if the timing is right, EPCOT's festival calendar has expanded to include more adult-focused events â mixology, late-night lounges, and chef experiences that feel nothing like the Disney people assume they're visiting.
The Nightlife and Dining Scene Is Genuinely Good
Disney Springs alone is worth an evening. Wine Bar George, Morimoto Asia, and The Edison offer dining, live music, and nightlife vibes well outside the parks â the kind of night where you combine a great meal with drinks and maybe live entertainment.
Inside the parks, dessert parties give you reserved fireworks viewing with bites and cocktails included. It's a far cry from hot dogs and churros.
The Right Resort Makes It Feel Luxurious
This is where staying on property as an adult really shines â especially at the Deluxe level. The Grand Floridian's renovation is now complete in 2026, making it feel refreshed, elegant, and ideal for a couple's trip or romantic escape near Magic Kingdom. Animal Kingdom Lodge is peaceful and immersive, with some of the best dining on Disney property â perfect for decompressing after park days, complete with savanna views and wine flights at sunset.
Staying on property also gets you Extended Evening Hours at select parks â meaning after the day guests leave, Deluxe resort guests get the parks almost to themselves. No crowds, lower wait times, the whole atmosphere shifts.
It's Genuinely Romantic
This might be the most underrated thing about an adults-only Disney trip: it's actually romantic. The theming, the fireworks, the attention to detail â Disney creates an atmosphere that's hard to replicate anywhere else. Fireworks cruises, spa treatments, and signature dinners at a resort overlooking the castle are the kinds of experiences couples remember for years.
Whether you're celebrating an anniversary, newly engaged, or just finally taking a trip that's just for you two â Disney delivers in a way most people don't expect.
When To Go (So It Actually Feels Adults-Only)
Timing matters. September, early November, January, February, late April, and early May are all great times to visit if you want fewer crowds and fewer kids around â just be mindful of school break schedules, which can sneak up on you.
The atmosphere during off-peak season is noticeably calmer, the lines are shorter, and the whole trip feels more like an elevated escape than a theme park marathon.
The Bottom Line
Disney adults-only trips aren't a niche thing anymore. They're one of the best-kept secrets in travel â and once you go, you'll understand why DVC owners keep going back year after year.
The magic doesn't have an age limit. It just hits differently when you can enjoy it at your own pace, with a cocktail in hand.
Ready to plan yours? That's exactly what I'm here for â as a travel advisor who has done this more than once, I know how to build a Disney trip that actually feels like a vacation for you.
